The demand for indoor tennis courts in winter is enormous. This winter, our indoor courts are almost fully booked at 97%. As a result, there are hardly any courts available for individual rental. The reason for this is the conversion of tennis courts into padel courts in our area.
This has led to a respectable list of tennis players who have registered with us for a court and are waiting for one to become available.
This has also led to a stagnation in the growth of young players who, according to the usual agreements with the LTC Startbaan tennis club, receive summer and winter tennis lessons.
Park Startbaan is therefore facing urgent demands from the club and the tennis school to increase its indoor winter capacity.
The board has decided to seriously investigate the possibility of covering two clay courts with an air dome and is already working hard on this.
The technical feasibility, financing, and permits are just some of the many major challenges that lie ahead. The goal is to have the air dome ready by October 1 of this year, but it is not yet certain whether this will be possible.
So, tennis players who are still looking for a tennis court this winter, keep in mind the arrival of this opportunity at our beautiful park with the conviviality of the Sportcafe afterwards. We will report on the hopefully good progress in these newsletters.
