It had been known “on the terrace” for some time. Rick Nieuwenkamp, the current owner of Sportcafé Startbaan, decided a year ago to put his business up for sale. Rick has run the catering business at Park Startbaan for 10 years and made it what it is today. For him, it is time for other ambitions.
The board of Park Startbaan has been actively involved in this business takeover. After all, the Sportcafé is very important for the sporting experience of all athletes at the park.
We found the new operators close to home. The current owners of The Majors Tennis and Padel Academy, Rachel Gans and Xander Spong, will also be putting their entrepreneurial skills to work for Sportcafé Startbaan, starting January 1, 2026.
And after many discussions, the new contracts will be signed very soon.
What does this mean for the future of the sports café and its staff?
The joint objective of the board and the new operators is to continue the current quality of the Sportcafé with the current staff, who will all be transferred under the same conditions. In addition, we can expect new initiatives to surprise visitors to Park Startbaan even more. Rachel and Xander will provide more information about this at a suitable moment. There are plenty of plans and ideas, but first of all, all energy will have to be put into the transition and transfer.
