After several months of waiting and extensive consultations with the municipality, we have finally obtained the environmental permit. We can now move forward with construction. And that’s great news!
Preparatory work in August
From July 29 through August 28, preparatory work will take place on court sections 3–4, where the air dome will be built. First, anchors will be drilled into the ground to form the foundation for the air-supported hall’s structure. Additionally, the fan unit and a gas tank will be installed in the municipal forest behind the fence. The fence will need to be temporarily removed for this purpose.
Next, we will replace the clay with new Gravel Pro. This is a fine-grained type of clay that is laid “on a slope.” “On a slope” means that the court has a 10-centimeter gradient from the center of the court section toward the side. This is not visible to the naked eye, and you won’t notice it at all while playing tennis. The advantage is rapid water drainage. Experience shows that after a rain shower, this type of clay court is playable again within half an hour. For the air dome the major advantage is that this clay effortlessly transits from winter to summer without requiring extensive maintenance.
There’s a chance the work will be completed before the week of the Club Championships, but everything would have to go perfectly. For now, however, we’re sticking with the plan to close court sections 3–4 from July 29 through August 28
In addition, the work will cause some inconvenience, and we ask for your understanding. We are doing our very best to minimize the inconvenience as much as possible.
Inflatable Hall Setup on September 22
This date has also been set. On September 22, the inflatable hall will be set up; the company Polyned will only need half a day to complete the job. For that day, we need about 25 volunteers to lend a hand. It’s not heavy work—the idea is that we need lots of helping hands.
We’ll make it a fun morning with breakfast between 7 and 8 a.m., and afterward, we’ll wrap things up with a festive, enjoyable lunch.
This is also your chance to contribute to the club and our beautiful park. If you can make yourself available and are willing to help out, please sign up at parkmanager@parkstartbaan.nl
Bookings and reservations for the inflatable hall are still available
Although the inflatable hall is quite full with reservations—up to 60%—there are still plenty of opportunities to book. Check this page of the website for availability.

One (small) disclaimer, however
Although the Municipality of Amstelveen has granted the permit, contracts have been signed with companies to carry out preparations such as anchoring the structure in the ground, and the supplier has been commissioned to begin construction of the inflatable hall, there is still a small risk that objections to (aspects of) the inflatable hall may be filed. We must make one more reservation regarding this minor risk, which will result not in a cancellation but in a postponement. The objection period expires on September 1. At that point, the permit will become final, and this reservation will no longer apply.
